Sources and method
How the guides use their sources.
Every factual statement in these guides cites the page of the document it is drawn from. This page lists those documents and explains how the guides were checked, what they are, and what they are not.
How a guide is written
Start from a practical question
Each guide is framed around a question that an engineer, contractor or client might ask about steelwork. The questions were written for this library; they are not taken from real enquiries. The guide answers its question first, briefly.
Cite and check the source page
Each factual statement carries a note giving the document, edition, section and physical PDF page. The cited pages were read in the acquired document, not in a summary, and pages with numbers, tables or drawings were read as rendered pages, not only as extracted text. These are AI-assisted and editorial checks: separate AI passes compared the wording with the cited pages, not every statement has yet had a check of its current wording, and no independent human engineering review has been made. Each guide states which checks it has had and when.
Explain in our own words
Statements are paraphrased rather than copied. Tables and figures are not reproduced; readers are sent to the page instead. Worked examples are our own hypothetical illustrations, labelled as such, using the method the cited source sets out; they are not projects, measurements or approved designs.
Label our own reading
Where we connect sources or add practical advice, the paragraph is marked as a practical consideration so it is not mistaken for a code rule. Where a source contradicts itself, the guide says so rather than choosing one value.
What the guides are not
- They are not project calculations. Loads, design values and member sizes depend on the specific structure, site, use and adopted code editions.
- They are not approvals or authority advice. Approval belongs to the relevant authority, and design review and any stamp belong to the project’s appointed consultant.
- They do not state Finesse Infra Steel Constructions approvals or credentials. None of the cited documents refers to Finesse Infra Steel Constructions.
- These guides have not yet had an independent human engineering or legal review; each guide states its own review status.
Finesse Infra Steel Constructions provides structural calculation reports for the agreed steelwork scope. Authority submission and obtaining approvals are outside that service.
Where a guide applies
Each guide names the place, code and edition its requirements come from, and search keeps them apart: a question about one emirate or country is not answered with another’s values. The library covers the United Arab Emirates; general engineering guidance is labelled as general. A Eurocode or UK guide is not evidence that its design basis is accepted for a Dubai project: Part F of the Dubai Building Code names AISC 360 for structural steel, and its wind clauses name ASCE/SEI 7-16 with Dubai provisions. Where the Code itself refers to a guide, as it does for SCI P354 on floor vibration, the note says so.
Editions and currency
We cite the edition we read, which is not always the newest edition in a publisher’s catalogue. A later edition does not automatically replace the one a code names or a project has adopted. Each guide shows its own source-check date; later amendments may change what applies, and we did not audit every amendment. If a cited document changes, the guide is rechecked before it is reissued.
Copyright and reuse
Links go to the publishers’ own copies. The library does not republish their PDFs, tables or figures. The diagrams in the guides are our own simplified drawings and carry no design values.
How search works
Search runs in your browser over the text of the guides on this site. It finds the guide and the passage that match your words and links to that passage. It does not generate answers, call an AI service or send your search anywhere.
